Christmas Eve is what people wait for right through the year. It is as though the whole world waits to celebrate the coming of its Messiah. What is so unique about Christmas Eve parties is that everyone is eager for Christmas day because people have held on the whole year to celebrate just this special day and Christmas Eve relates more to the peak of this excitement.

Christmas Eve parties start normally at about 9pm on 24th December; the idea behind this is that people who eat very heavily at parties feel lethargic and this does not make them feel like getting involved in the party. Parties starting at 9pm prompt people to have a light dinner at home and then come over. These parties also do not serve liquor besides beer and wine, which are drinks associated with merry making.

These parties are held in rooms that are lit with scented candles and decorations of green, red and white. They start with people socializing and at the eleventh hour, people bring out their musical instruments and have live singing of Christmas carols.

A lot of Christmas cakes as well as sweets are served on the occasion and as the clock strikes twelve, people wish each other Merry Christmas. A small movie on the birth of Jesus is usually played reminding people about the reason behind this celebration that happens around the world. The people invited to these parties are from many faiths, the essence of them harmonizing and celebrating Christmas speaks of a unity and makes one feel overwhelmed with the bonding. These parties go on to 3am approximately as many need to go back home, get sleep and then attend the morning Church service so that they can have the rest of the day to spend with their family.
